What do you love most about teaching?
What I cherish most about teaching is the profound opportunity to inspire and uplift our youth. I take great joy in equipping them with the essential tools they need to flourish in today’s world, while enveloping them in the love and support they truly deserve.
What is the best way to describe your classroom on a typical day?
A typical day in my classroom is marked by authenticity, warmth, and genuine connections. It is a space where consistency blends with enrichment, inspiring curiosity and a profound passion for learning—especially the essential journey of self-love.

Why are you passionate about supporting fellow teachers?
As a special education teacher with 19 years of experience, I’ve learned that teaching is not meant to be done in isolation. I’m passionate about supporting fellow teachers because I understand firsthand the challenges and rewards that come with this profession. At this point in education, it is imperative to create a community to support our fellow colleagues.
Supporting other educators—whether through collaboration, sharing strategies, or simply listening—builds collective strength within a school. When teachers feel supported, they are more confident, effective, and empowered to meet the diverse needs of their students. I believe in creating a culture of trust, reflection, and continuous learning where teachers lift each other up. Helping my colleagues succeed ultimately means better outcomes for all students, and that’s what drives my passion.
Why do you love working in NNPS?
The Office of Special Education Student Services (OSESS) Central Office provides exceptional support. They are consistently responsive and accessible through phone calls, emails, or texts. What truly stands out is their willingness to be present in our buildings, offering hands-on guidance and collaborative problem-solving. Their commitment ensures that school-based staff never feel alone in navigating challenges, and their support strengthens our ability to meet the needs of all students.

Why are you passionate about supporting fellow teachers?
I am passionate about supporting fellow teachers because I believe no teacher should feel like they have to do it all alone. Teaching can be challenging, and we all benefit when we have colleagues we can lean on for support, encouragement, and new ideas. Collaboration allows us to share strategies, problem-solve together, and learn from one another’s experiences.
I enjoy supporting other teachers because I know that when teachers feel supported, they are better equipped to support their students. Whether it is sharing a resource, helping find a solution to a challenging situation, or simply being someone who listens, small acts of support can make a big difference. I believe in creating a school culture where teachers feel comfortable asking for help, sharing their strengths, and celebrating each other’s successes. When we work together, we grow together—and ultimately, our students benefit the most.
I love working in NNPS because it has been such a positive part of my transition to Virginia. When I moved to Virginia a couple of years ago, starting over in a new state and adjusting to a new school system was a big change. NNPS made that transition feel much more welcoming and supportive.
I appreciate that NNPS invests in its teachers by providing meaningful professional development, resources, and opportunities to continue growing professionally. I also value the support and collaboration among educators. I feel encouraged to learn new strategies, share ideas, and continue developing as a teacher. NNPS has created an environment where I feel supported, valued, and motivated to grow—not only for myself, but so I can better serve my students. I am grateful to be part of a division that recognizes that when we invest in teachers, we ultimately invest in students.Judith Hammett

Why are you passionate about supporting fellow teachers?
I am passionate about supporting fellow teachers because I remember how challenging it was to, not only learn the SWD/IEP side of documents and teaching, but also to simultaneously become confident and knowledgeable in the English content. I love the co-teaching model, especially when you have the respect and confidence of your co-teacher/partner, who shares your belief in knowing that they are "all" our students, not just SWD or Gen Ed.
What do you love most about teaching?
What I love most about teaching is seeing the amazing growth that my students make each year, both academically and with maturing. I especially love seeing that "a-ha" moment when students realize their true academic capabilities and their confidence begins to soar.
